Swing Gage

Swing Gages

To obtain information of the condition of a raw or assembled brake shoe assembly, swing gages are a necessity. They are almost always made for a specific shoe or family of shoes and are equipped with reference blocks corresponding to the data planes on the shoe.

Built-in digital indicators reveal many of the characteristics of the shoe assembly such as radius, fall-off, and perpendicularity.

Unlined Shoe Gage

Unlined Shoe Gages

For general shop work, unlined shoe gages reveal the general condition of the brake shoe prior to bonding or riveting. The gages are made of heavy cast iron, machined to size.

Reading the arc of a shoe that has been ground to size can be done quickly and easily using these gages. The gages are positioned on the edge of the shoe and the arc of the shoe is compared to the arc of the gage. Each gage is machined to a specific arc corresponding to the finished radius of the shoe.
